The UrbanGlass Gala combines the UrbanGlass Awards with the 31st Anniversary Auction and Glassblowers Ball into one glorious evening celebrating outstanding achievements in glass.
This year artist Therman Statom will be honored with the UrbanGlass Award for Outstanding Achievement and the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass (AACG) for Service to the Field.
The Auction presents a select group of art from emerging, established and master artists, as well as special trips and one-of-a-kind experiences. One hundred works are available in one live auction and two silent auctions. The auction catalog will be available online at www.urbanglass.org for viewing and absentee bidding in March 2008.
“Cirque de Verre” is a glass circus extravaganza of emerging talent featuring Kim “Muscles” Harty, “Flaming” Rika Hawes & Charlotte “Popper” Potter. Acts include synchronized glassblowing • two headed glassblower • freak show menagerie • world’s strongest women • Sam’s flying ladle. Hosted by The Great Fredini, of “This or That!” burlesque game show fame.
The Auction and Glassblowers Ball is the principal fundraising event of UrbanGlass. Monies raised go to support the programs of UrbanGlass, including the 17,000-square-foot open access glassworking studio; a comprehensive education program; The Bead Project, a scholarship program for low income women artists; GLASS: The UrbanGlass Art Quarterly, on- and off-site exhibitions including the Robert Lehman Gallery; visiting artist fellowships; and The Store at UrbanGlass.
