The new Museum of Arts and Design Building

The new Museum of Arts and Design at 2 Columbus Circle in NYC opened to the public in September 2008. Formerly the American Craft Museum, the institution is dedicated to the collection and exhibition of contemporary objects created in media such as clay, glass, wood, metal, and fiber.

For the first time in its history, the Museum will have dedicated space for its permanent collection. The new building will also house its educational programs and three artist-in-residence studios, making the Museum the first multi-disciplinary institution to offer arts-in-education, hands-on art-making, and art making within the museum experience.

Glass and Steel: Art Transcends Industry
May 2 – September 5, 2008

In 2008, Pittsburgh is celebrating 250 years of leadership, innovation, creativity and inspiration with the theme “Imagine What You Can do Here.” In conjunction with this city-wide initiative, Pittsburgh Glass Center is planning an exhibition called “Glass and Steel: Art Transcends Industry” for May 2008.

This exhibition is open to local artists living in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The only requirement is that your work must use glass and steel in some way. The work can be fully integrated using both materials in equal parts or the steel can be a framework, bracket or stand for the glass. All applications using the two materials will qualify.
